Wolf, Hugo

Hugo (Philpp Jakob) Wolf(1860-1903), Austrian composer of Slovene origin, particularly noted for his art songs(Lieder). He begam to study violin and piano with his father, then attended the Vienna Conservatory, but later he was expelled. He served as assistant and chorus master at the Salzburg Opera, he is famed for his many beautiful songs, he composed 3 operas, instrumental music, songs(Lieder). Today he is generally ranked among the few foremost composers of Lieder.
